-which is a good thing, just didn't happen quite like I envisioned.
No farewell party, no mad dash to see all his friends before leaving, no sentimental reflection on the past 18 years, no, it was 'this is Brandyn's this is Alyssa's this is Toesy's' (apparently I am in charge of returning the items) and 'anything I forgot I can get from you later, you'll only be 2 hours away.'
Hug, 'bye Mom, get in your car and go home now.' Seriously. In the parking lot last night following his first test for black belt. He Did tell me he was hungry so I was delaying him getting dinner, but the "Go home now" (repeated more than once) was on the Cold side!
I wasn't even clinging or weeping or carrying on in the least, just there to support his black belt test [from afar, you (family, friends, etc) are not allowed to be present for that test]
I started to regret that I had not manufactured a teary 'scene' expressing my inability to face life or even the next hour without him near -Tremendous need for Distance with this one!
He is happily on his way to WA with his Dad this morning and I am hoping he will find a good job, get his license, save lots of money for his mission and spend time and $ $ $ enjoying the next six months as he gets to know his dad and tries out the real world without the parameters he has known the last 18 years! I am believing he will find some of the guidelines are still useful, that he will tweek other guidelines to fit what he wants to do and be, that he will develop a more complete sense of self, enjoy the young adult ward, enjoy institute, enjoy having a car and license- he is a good driver, still learning but has a good foundation, I couldn't afford insurance so the solo stuff is calling him loud and clear now!- and make good use of his opportunities to take more control of, and responsibility for, his life and decisions.
YAY Drox!!! Oh the Places You'll Go! You are on your way ;-} xoxoxox
