They (and their generation*) do have lots to offer! Ddonn mentioned in her blog that she was looking for a theme for this month's posts, since it apparently is national blog posting month, and I like one of my suggestions to her enough to try it myself ;-}
Here is the quote upon which it is based - Elder Henry B Eyring "I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: 'Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?' As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done." November 2007 Ensign (October 2007 General Conference)
-and I will have to post twice today to cover yesterday I suppose... MAK's baptism was yesterday which brought back memories of my own baptism in July 1962! and all the consequent blessings I have enjoyed over the years. People were over for lunch, etc. and in one of the discussions a visitor mentioned a talk by Elder Joseph B Wirthlin, October conference 2006, which I looked up, listened to, read and felt encouraged by... again
"I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world's history, that Friday was the darkest.
But the doom of that day did not endure.
The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind.
And in an instant the eyes that had been filled with ever-flowing tears dried. The lips that had whispered prayers of distress and grief now filled the air with wondrous praise, for Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God, stood before them as the firstfruits of the Resurrection, the proof that death is merely the beginning of a new and wondrous existence.
Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays.
But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.
No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come. In this life or the next, Sunday will come."
