I rented a 14 ft U Haul truck this morning, drove the 1+ mile to Tiney's and emptied my things out of her garage with lots of help. SJ was there so everyone stayed on track and kept moving, it is nice to have a friend that enjoys directing people, and works as hard as she asks of others! Matey helped carry things for the first half hour, T and R and JRV and GI did most of the heavy lifting but Tiney and I worked too. GI and T chose to just lift the piano and carry it up the ramp into the truck. Later poor T ran afoul of a door jam, the metal plate part, and did a number on his thumb, slowed him down a bit! Matey had gone out back to play as we finished loading and when he picked up one of his trucks a spider or yellow jacket got him on the finger, it was red and swollen right away but no sign of a stinger. We put baking soda paste on it and Mommy got him an orange popsicle and he was recovering as we left.
I drove the truck out to the property, my first time there as a driver and it is a good thing I had a navigator! EL3 was there ahead of us working on the stump, or should I say EX stump, making it possible to back right up to the door and lay the ramp inside the storage building. We unloaded with JRV and R doing most of the hard stuff, T was injured and we old ladies stayed in the building placing and arranging and re arranging. We lifted but did less walking.
The young people left when the truck was unloaded but the 3 old folks stayed to work on raising the door to the building so the threshold would fit correctly. At 2 I left with written directions on how to get home and Short my navigator! I was beyond nervous but only panicked once when I thought I had missed a turn and then saw a sign I recognized so it was brief ;-} Paid the toll, filled the truck across the street from the truck rental place - BIG mistake. It was 3.99/gal and I had passed at least a dozen stations with lower prices but I had 11 minutes to return the truck and hadn't thought to check the price this morning.
So, truck rental 29.95, safe move 14, tax 8.4% and $.89 per mile was $108, toll was 5, the 7.177 gal at 3.99 was $28.70 and the stop at A&W/KFC for a gallon of rootbeer for the laborers and food for me was 12.23. So we skip over how the gallon was in two half gallon drink cups, NOT bottles with lids, and one was in the cooler between seats but its friend was on the floor and when I turned out of the driveway of KFC it dumped over and drenched the carpet in rootbeer. SO, I turned into St Clair's parking lot, swept out rootbeer, ate my lunch and then continued home.
I love showers ;-}
SJ remembered that lumpia had been on this week's menu (and I wanted to hurt her) but she and R helped and it turned out just amazingly well (I was SO tired). The wrappers we didn't put the sausage/cabbage/carrot filling in we brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I bake lumpia these days and then just briefly fry them to crisp the outside. The 'dessert' ones were really good too, R gets credit for the idea to cinnamon/sugar them, they were just baked, no frying ;-Þ
Did 3 batches of indexing, talked to Le (she may have found her new apt ;-) worked on dishes, movie with SJ and EL3 and am fast asleep as I type this, or something like that.
The hardest part of the day, besides driving home alone, was having to see just how much stuff I still have. I left Buh a msg saying I am going to kidnap him, camp out on the property with him and go thru EVERYTHING until I give at least half of it away. Yeesh!
And George is getting baptized in Oct so now there is something new to plan and arrange for. Le's move 27-30 Aug, ID trip 3-17? Sept, T and R wedding 5 Oct, George 13 Oct, baby 13? Nov. I get the impression Betsy is working on a nervous breakdown (more than the oil change I haven't done yet) so I need to take her in this week or I won't be driving too far too fast :-o I love to count my blessings xoxoxox
